Does Household Income Influence Mental Distress?

The data for this map was obtained from the County Health Rankings and Roadmaps 2016 national data.

After log transforming median household income I ran a linear regression model on frequent mental distress (dependent variable) and (median household income (independent variable) and the results were a p-value of 0.00, an F statistic of 2,965, a t-value of -54.45 and a coefficient of -6.133.

Frequent Mental Distress is the percentage of adults who reported >14 days in response to the question, "Now, thinking about your mental health, which includes stress, depression, and problems with emotions, for how many days during the past 30 days was your mental health not good?" (2014 BRFFS)
